Understanding Autism

In the airport, not really thinking but just heading to my car...wait, what? On a news stand, I see a blue cover with Autism...hmmm.

Inside, chapters of Introduction, Child and Family, Autism and Science, Aiding the Autistic, and Autism in Our Culture. All great topics! Even a mention of Dr. Hans Asperger, who studied Autistic boys in Europe, and a section also dispels the myth that cold-hearted mothers were to blame.
This book is ideal reading for anyone caring for Autists (or neurodiverse kids who don't quite fit on the spectrum), college students in special education teacher programs, parents, Autists themselves, or anyone who cares about solving global problems--these are the kids whose creativity we need to save the world! The longer I work with these students, the more I believe this. There is even an article on a mother and daughter, both who have Autism, which I particularly liked. The focus on females/women/girls tends to be much less discussed in the Autism world. Yet this publication shared some specifics about Autistic mothers and challenges they face.
